A credit card is basically a card which allows you to borrow money from a credit
account. You can make payments using your card or withdraw money from your account
using cash machines or ATMs. They offer flexibility and allow you the freedom
to choose when exactly you wish to pay off your bill.
There are however, a variety of cards which are broadly collected under the
umbrella of 'credit cards'. A debit card is a card
used in conjunction with a current banking account. Payments made using a debit
card will be processed and deducted from your account shortly after the transaction
has taken place. A credit card allows you more flexibility-
you will simply be sent a monthly statement and decide how much you wish to pay
off each month. A charity or donation card works
in the same way as a regular credit card except that a portion of everything you
spend on your card is donated to charity. A charge card
is a type of card where the monthly balance must be paid off in full every month.
This type of card is often favoured by businesses or by people who have low credit
ratings. Store cards are plastic offered by retail
businesses allowing you to make purchases in their store and pay it off when you
choose.
Today the credit card industry is an extremely competitive and thriving market,
with new products constantly jostling for the top spot. Due to this there is a
huge range of products on offer, all providing different benefits; there is bound
to be a card to suit your needs. Whatever type of credit card you decide to go
for, think about it sensibly and try to find a card that matches your lifestyle
and your needs. Don't rush into anything or be blinded by tempting deals.
